Really how do people come up with this stuff!
Sailor Moon
[CIVILIAN IDENTITY] Michiru Kaiou.
When Usagi and Minako met Haruka in episode 92, they also encountered her companion, Michiru Kaiou. They immediately noticed how elegant she was. She emitted a very mature aura despite only being a high school student.
Like Haruka, Michiru came from an affluent background. She transferred to Mugen Academy, a school for geniuses. She was a skilled violinist and painter, and a good swimmer, too. She and Ami had a swimming contest in episode 97. Ami slowed down so they would tie. Being the competitive person she was, Michiru was angry at Mizuno for not playing to her fullest. They had a rematch and tied for real.
Michiru had a second sense, similar to Rei’s, and felt the beginnings of the apocalypse before her first on screen appearance in S. It inspired her artwork, which included a large painting shown in a flashback in episode 106. The same episode explained that Michiru turned into a senshi before Haruka. She felt an instant connection with Tenou when they met. Michiru didn’t want Haruka to become a senshi, though.
As she got to know Usagi and her friends more, Michiru grew to like them. She found Usagi’s naivete endearing. In episodes 101 and 102, Usagi was targeted by Kaolinite and her daimon. Michiru knew Haruka was bothered by not helping Usagi, who had become an important person to both of them. Still, they were after the talismans and they understood the high price of finding them. It wasn’t until episode 109 did Michiru and Haruka learn who Sailor Moon really was.
The next two episodes had Michiru discovering that she was a talisman carrier. With the Holy Grail formed, Michiru, Haruka and Setsuna had to find the Messiah. Chibiusa’s friend Hotaru Tomoe was the Messiah and also Sailor Saturn. Michiru and the other Outers had to stop Saturn from awakening, and this caused tension between both Sailor Teams.
Pharaoh 90 was ultimately destroyed thanks to Sailors Saturn and Super Sailor Moon. Michiru and Haruka did not forgive Usagi, though, for handing over the Holy Grail to Mistress 9. The pair challenged her to a duel without the Inners’ help. Sailor Moon managed to win, and the senshi duo bowed down to their princess. The Outers were assigned the task of protecting the galaxy from outside evil forces. With the Death Busters gone, Michiru and Haruka retired from fighting for a while.
In the SuperS TV special, Michiru and Haruka stayed at a hotel. The Dead Moon Circus had infected its employees with its power. A possessed maid attacked Michiru and attempted to push over a balcony. Michiru subdued her and rescued Haruka from the lemures, Dummy. Haruka mentioned the new enemy, and Michiru said that the Inner Senshi could handle it.
Nehelenia returned in Sailor Stars, and her minions ambushed Michiru and Haruka during their date. They resumed their senshi duties, and joined the others to save Mamoru from Nehelenia’s curse.
In episode 180, Usagi and the girls wanted to go to the sold out Three Lights concert. Michiru had tickets since she was playing the show with them. In Michiru’s dressing room, she flirted with Seiya and asked him to help her unzip her dress. Haruka walked in and became very jealous.
Although it was never stated explicitly in the anime, Haruka and Michiru were a romantic couple. They lived together, slept in the same bed, and became surrogate parents to young Hotaru. Michiru liked to tease Haruka by bringing up subtle yet intimate details about their relationship.
“Kaiou” means “sea king” and “michiru” is the verb for “to mature” or “to rise”. Apparently the character of Michiru is influenced by the famous Japanese, all-female theatre troupe Takarazuka Kagekidan.
